About Tea In Ibaraki Prefecture
Ibaraki Prefecture consists of mountainous terrain in the north and the Hitachi Plain, which stretches across the south and west. It is characterized by a relatively mild climate, with annual precipitation below the national average and a high percentage of sunny days.
With a history of tea production dating back to the Edo period, “Sashima Tea,” “Okukuji Tea,” and “Furuchi Tea” are known as the “Three Great Teas of Ibaraki.” In addition to traditional sencha and deep-steamed tea, the prefecture has recently gained high acclaim for its Japanese black tea.
