About Tea In Kochi Prefecture
About 85% of Kochi Prefecture is covered by mountains and forests, and the region is characterized by a terrain that slopes steeply from the Shikoku Mountains in the north down to the Pacific Ocean in the south.
In the mid-mountain regions, where clear streams such as the Niyodo and Shimanto Rivers flow and where there are significant temperature variations, “Tosa Tea” and “Sawatari Tea” are cultivated. Additionally, the fermented tea “Goishi Tea” is produced in Otoyo Town.
You can also find a tea culture that makes the most of the rich natural environment, such as “Yamacha,” which is made from tea trees growing wild in the mountain villages.
