About Tea In Akita Prefecture
With the exception of its western coast along the Sea of Japan, Akita Prefecture is a region surrounded by mountains, with the Shirakami Mountains to the north, the Ou Mountains to the east, and the Hinotodake and Kamuro mountain ranges to the south.
“Hiyama-cha,” produced in the Hiyama district in the northwest, is considered one of the northernmost tea-producing regions on the Sea of Japan coast. Tea cultivation has continued there from the mid-Edo period to the present day.
