About Tea in Chiba Prefecture
Chiba Prefecture is a long-established tea-producing region, and today deep-steamed sencha teas such as “Sakura Tea” and “Yachimata Tea” are produced in cities like Sakura, Yachimata, and Sodegaura.
Historically, it was considered the second-largest tea-producing region after Shizuoka Prefecture, but tea cultivation declined as peanut production increased.
Varieties cultivated in volcanic ash soil tea gardens include “Yabukita” and the traditional native variety “Yachimata Kaori.”
