About Tea In Ehime Prefecture
Ehime Prefecture is located in the northwestern part of the Shikoku region. It is characterized by rugged mountainous terrain, epitomized by Mount Ishizuchi—the highest peak in western Japan—and has very few flat plains.
“Shingu Tea” from Shikokuchuo City and “Kuma Tea” from Kuma Kogen Town are renowned for their high quality as sencha.
Additionally, “Ishizuchi Black Tea,” a rare fermented tea with a tradition dating back to the Edo period, was designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan in 2023.
