About Tea In Saga Prefecture
Saga Prefecture is a region ideally suited for tea cultivation, characterized by gently rolling mountains, deep fog, significant day-night temperature differences, and ideal sunlight exposure.
Located in the southwestern part of the prefecture, Ureshino City is the primary tea-producing area. Together with the adjacent Higashisonogi District in Nagasaki Prefecture, it forms the core production region supporting Ureshino tea.
Ureshino tea refers specifically to tea finished and processed using 100% raw tea leaves produced in Saga or Nagasaki Prefectures. Additionally, it is stipulated that tea containing 50% or more of these leaves may be labeled as “Ureshino Tea Blend.”
Himono tea is known as “Tamaryokucha” (round green tea) due to its uniquely rounded shape, rare among Japanese teas. It is produced using two methods: “steamed processing” and “pan-fired processing,” allowing tea lovers to enjoy the distinct characteristics and individuality of each producer.
